This stunning residence, with each of its unique chimneys stretching majestically into the sky above, is situated in the heart of the Bowood Estate and is any golfer’s idea of paradise. This 19th Century Georgian Lodge is nestled between the seventh and eighth fairways of one of the finest championship golf courses in the south of England. Lady Lansdowne has furnished this luxurious Georgian Lodge to the highest of standards, with emphasis on creating the comfort and atmosphere of a private house.
The lodge itself, a large 19th century cottage orneé, was built on the site of an earlier farmstead (possibly dating back as far as 1653). It is likely that the new house was part of a grander scheme to improve the estate houses and cottages that stood within the views of the visitors to the Estate as they approached through Sir Charles Barry’s ‘Golden Gates’ at Derry Hill and made their way through the park to the big house. The 19th Century Georgian Lodge is hired on an exclusive basis giving you complete privacy in an informal environment. Non golfers will not feel left out; with complimentary access to the main house and gardens (April-October), a stroll through the surrounding parkland or a trip to the nearby spa city of Bath.
There are four individually decorated, lavish bedrooms with ensuites; The Lansdowne Room boasts original fireplaces and overlooks the gardens; The Kerry Room is a decorated in vibrant green and cream, with windows on both sides looking out to the course and gardens; The spacious Dunkerron Room overlooks the 8th tee and has a raised bath in its huge bathroom and finally Wycombe is the smallest of the rooms in the eves of the house but is very pretty with views on three sides.
During the winter, fires blaze in the study and sitting room and when the weather is fine aperitifs, afternoon tea and even dinner can be served on the terrace overlooking the pretty garden and golf course, where you may even be visited by some of the many deer including Roe, Fallow and Muntjak roaming freely on the estate. Relax amongst the regency stripes and floral prints of the Sitting Room and enjoy a candle-lit royal feast in the dining room. The menu can be pre-selected or you can leave the choice to your private chef who will prepare dishes based on the finest local ingredients available, many of which come from the estate itself.
The property is owned by Lord and Lady Lansdowne, who live on the estate in the main house. The Lodge offers the ultimate private retreat to discerning guests, from the moment of your arrival you will be taken care of by the dedicated team, Chris & Karen Dawson, who will ensure your visit to the Lodge is a special and memorable one.
